The #trans activist who was murdered? I thought she had the same name as someone I knew, #JulieBerman . No. She WAS the person I knew. We communicated infrequently but she was from my old 'hood & we'd joke about it. She was a real person, not a statistic.

One sick person did this to her. But with society's general indifference about violence against #trans ppl, we contributed to it in part. We didn't commit the crime, we bear no guilt for it, but we do bear the responsibility for our apathy & rationalizations about #transphobia .
